Sustainable production environment at BUVO Castings

With the construction of the new and third casting hall, numerous opportunities were again created for making the organization more sustainable. These possibilities have been tackled with both hands by the BUVO organization. For example, Colt International has supplied their high-end and energy-efficient air handling system and the foundry has an adiabatic cooling system for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. In winter, the foundry is heated with residual heat from the cooling system and compressors. The new casting cells, pre-melting furnaces and dosing furnaces, which will fill this hall, are also the most modern of their kind and have a strong reduction in energy consumption when compared to their predecessors.

Thanks to all these initiatives, the Helmond foundry has managed to heat all buildings without gas. This has reduced the former CO2 emissions from heating from 473,000 kg / year to 0. Due to the organisation’s sustainability focus, the total energy consumption has also been reduced to 727 MWh / year, which is a reduction of more than 75%.

So you see: even within manufacturing companies, where you would not immediately think of a sustainable environment, sustainability can have a central position in the organization through the right management.
